The coming year promises to be our most exciting yet. Safonia will be reaching out to a more diverse audience with collaborative performances and we will be releasing a new cd, "Taking Flight!".
Our Spring 2009 concerts, also entitled “Taking Flight” are full of the music you have come to love from Safonia. From the beautiful and lyric “I Am Not Yours” to the percussive and powerful “Dona Nobis Pacem”, the concert and the cd will knock your socks off!
Be sure to save one of these dates and come help us celebrate the release of our 2nd cd:
• May 2nd, 7:30 pm at the Sixth Avenue UCC, (3250 E. 6th Avenue, Denver)
• May 3rd, 4:00 pm at the Berkeley Community Church, (3701 W. 50th Ave, Denver)
Tickets for all performances are $10 in advance and $12.00 at the door.
The concert and CD continue our exploration of the power and grace of women’s voices and will be filled with the beautiful and challenging music that is giving Safonia a reputation as one of the best-kept secrets in Denver. You can order a Taking Flight! CD by clicking here.
We will collaborate with a small group of male singers in a concert presenting Bob Chilcott’s “A Little Jazz Mass” in October. Save the dates: October 9th, 10th & 11th so you can enjoy this wonderful piece in addition to Safonia singing jazz favorites from the yesterday and today. These concerts will be in a cabaret setting, so there will be libations and munchies to enjoy while you enjoy a fun and relaxed evening out, courtesy of Safonia.
The year will come to a close for Safonia with a Christmas collaboration for children, our first undertaking of this kind. Stay tuned for more details, but it is sure to be a Christmas concert like no other.
About Safonia
SAFONIA is a women’s vocal ensemble dedicated to the synergy of music, passion and excellence.
Safonia was formed in the Summer of 2004 with a small focus group of individuals who have diverse experiences in local and national choral music, choral music administration and production. They created Safonia, the long-term vision for the group and set the stage for growth throughout these first stages of existence.
Safonia consists of women of all ages and interests who share a common goal to experience true musical excellence.
Under the direction of Marla Wasson, our over-riding goal is to create a seamless blend between all members without squelching the amazing passion and creativity each woman brings to the group. Musicianship is enhanced by repertoire selection of both classical and non-classical works. Safonia strives to bring a transcendent grace to each note, line and composition we perform.
We welcome new input and opportunities to perform in addition to our concerts. We look forward to collaborations with all types of groups in the Denver area.
