Join Safonia for Elements, a concert that reflects on the natural forces that shape our lives—earth, air, fire, and water—through choral works by a wide range of contemporary composers.
The program includes Frank Ticheli’s Earth Song, a quiet plea for peace and healing; Ola Gjeilo’s Northern Lights, a tribute to the quiet beauty and mystery of the aurora borealis; and Melissa Dunphy’s Wild Embers, a fiery anthem inspired by feminist poetry.
We’ll sing Elaine Hagenberg’s I Am the Wind and Shadow River, both of which explore inner change through imagery from the natural world. Katerina Gimon’s Elements, a four-part experimental work, invites the listener to experience the elements abstractly through extended vocal techniques, while Gwyneth Walker’s Tree of Peace calls for strength and gentleness in equal measure.
Other featured composers include Morten Lauridsen, BE Boykin, Craig Courtney, Darius Lim, and more—each bringing their own perspective on nature, transformation, and what it means to live in a world that is both fragile and resilient. Whether you’ve been with us for years or are hearing us for the first time, Elements offers a thoughtful and engaging evening of treble choral music.
